Purplish smokey eye

Purple works great in a smokey eye. We’re all used to seeing browns and blacks, and while those classics never disappoint, I want to encourage you to try purple. It’s such a beautiful color that works for all eye colors.

This time I used only cool colors and they really brought out the cool blue hues in my eyes. If you’re not that into cool tones, you can also try pairing purple with warm shades such as brown or gold. Here is en example of how purple looks paired with warm colors.

I created this look using Luxie’s Smokey Eye Brush Kit and NYX Perfect Filter palette. Products are listed at the end of this post.

Purplish smokey eye tutorial

  1. Start by applying a transition colour and blend that really well using a big fluffy brush. I used a cool mauve color. This is the highest point of your eyeshadow and you’ll blend your darker colors into this color. Having a slightly darker shade (than your skin) here helps to create a smooth gradient.
  2. Start creating the shape that you want by marking your edges with a dark purple shade. You want the dark color to be visible, so keep your eye open while drawing this line. Blend the edge really well with a fluffy brush – this is a smokey eye after all.
  3. Fill in the dark color, inside the line that you drew and blended out.  I used a dark duochrome purple shade. Apply the same shade on to your lower lashline too – we’re making the lower lashline smokey as well!
  4. Blend again using the big fluffy brush, but be very careful of not blending too much. You still want to keep the dark color somewhat focused on the lid and lower lashline.
  5. Apply some inner corner highlight. I used a cool shimmery shade. Line your eye using a damp liner brush and a dark shadow. Add mascara and lashes and you’re done!

A few words about Luxie’s makeup brushes

I’ve now used Luxie brushes for a while and I’m positively surprised of their quality. In this particular brush kit the brushes are pink, which is the only minus. Most of the sets come in pink or rose gold, but they also have white individual brushes. Luxie brushes are dense, yet soft, and they perform really well. If you’re in need of good quality brushes with a reasonable price point, and you don’t mind having pink brushes, these are worth checking out!

The brush kit I used contains Luxie 205 Tapered Blending, Luxie 213 Eye Shading, Luxie 217 Pencil and Luxie 215 Small Angle brushes. Besides the *Smokey Eye Kit they also have a *Detailed Eye kit, which has smaller brushes. That might be more convenient, if you don’t have as much lid space and feel clumsy with a big brush. I actually have one brush from that kit, 141 mini round, which I love to use on my lower lashline.

I also used a mauve nude shade from Colourpop Flutter palette as my transition color.

Makeup Monday: Pinja

This post contains *adlinks and pr-samples

Makeup Monday continues! In this series I have chosen some interesting people to sit in my makeup chair and fulfilled my vision for their makeup. Here is the fourth makeup transformation, featuring a dear friend of mine: Pinja.

Makeup Monday: Pinja

If you’ve read my blog before, you might recognize Pinja. She has starred in my blog before. We met at beauty school and Pinja actually sometimes acts as my personal beauty therapist. She is also a model, a blogger and an eager instagrammer. Her blog focuses on her trips and she started it when she lived in Australia for two years. Pinja is kind, loving and funny. She’s also very hard-working, so it was nice to see her after we both being busy with work and life.

Pinja has such beautiful features and I love to do her makeup. I planned this look around that gorgeous lip color. I used was *YSL Tatouage Couture Matte Stain in the shade 21. It’s the perfect Fall lip shade, a beautiful deep red. I paired the lip color with a simple eye makeup except that burgundy red liner. See how that makes her green eyes pop? If you have green eyes, here’s a full-proof way to accentuate them: put on some red there. That *NYX Faux Black Oxblood Liner is very long lasting.

Pinja has great brows already, but I made them even more perfect by adding some brow strokes using a new product I received from GOSH. That brow product has found its way into my makeup bag, it’s so good. I also tried a new blush  by Clarins.

And hey – make sure to follow Pinja on her Instagram!
